What is acne?
The small holes in your skin, also known as the pores, connect to the oil glands which are located under the skin. These glands secrete an oily substance known as sebum. When the follicle pore gets clogged, oil gets trapped and a pimple or acne occurs. About 8 out of 10 people develop acne.
There are various grades of acne. Each individual may face a different grade of acne at one point or the other.
These are pimples that stay under the surface of the skin. They appear as white dots on the surface of the skin.
These pimples rise to the skin’s surface and look black. The black color does not occur due to dirt but due to the oxidation of the clogged content.
These are small pink bumps that can be tender.
These pimples are red at the bottom and have pus on top.
These are large, painful, solid pimples that are deep in the skin.
These deep, painful, pus-filled pimples can cause scars.
What causes acne?
Acne is the most common skin condition and is faced by 80 percent of all individuals between the age of 11 - 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. The main cause of acne remains the over production of sebum (oil) in the skin. However, acne could also be caused due to the following reasons:
